Key Incentives

India's central and state governments have put in place progressive policies to boost the wind energy sector in the country.

State Feed-in Tariffs

Key states have established feed-in tariffs to support wind energy installations.

Renewable Purchase Obligations

A national action plan for climate change recommended that by 2020 up to 15 percent of a utility's capacity comes from renewable sources. A majority of key states have put in place the renewable purchase obligations to meet similar requirements.

Renewable Energy Certificate

Renewable energy certificates (RECs) are awarded when a renewable energy generator generates 1 MWh of renewable energy and sells it to the grid at the conventional power tariff. RECs can be traded in open market where obligated entities purchase them to meet their Renewable purchase obligations.

National Clean Energy Fund

The National Clean Energy Fund, an integral part of India's overall effort to cut its carbon footprint, finances research and development of next-generation renewable energy technologies.
