The John F. Welch Technology Centre in Bangalore, India, is a multi–disciplinary research and development center that expands GE's research and development capabilities, accelerating the company's delivery of advanced technology to its global customers. The Centre collaborates with GE's three other R&D facilities that form the GE Global Research team (the Research Center in Schenectady, NY; Munich, Germany; and Shanghai, China) to conduct research, development and engineering activities for all of GE's diverse businesses worldwide.

Drawing on India's unique multi–disciplinary skills – from mechanical and electrical engineering to polymer science and chemical engineering – the Centre incorporates the latest technology and e–engineering tools to facilitate real–time global interaction with GE's businesses, technology centers, customers and suppliers.
The John F. Welch Technology Centre, inaugurated on Sept 17, 2000, is home to state–of–the–art laboratories working on research and development in the areas of mechanical engineering, electronic and electrical system technology, ceramics and metallurgy, catalysis and advanced chemistry, chemical engineering and process, polymer science and new synthetic materials, process modeling and simulation, power electronics and analysis technologies.
From its inception till date on account of the work undertaken at the Center more than 1600 patents have been filed on behalf of and at the directions of General Electric Company and its affiliates and they have been granted over 400 patents so far.
In addition to the GE Global Research activities, the JFWTC is also home to technology teams from other GE organizations including GE Advanced Materials, GE Consumer & Industrial, GE Energy, GE Transportation and GE Healthcare.

-Boundaryless, global laboratories and facilities spread over 50 acres of land leverage GE's Six Sigma Quality process methodology and e–engineering/digitization focus, and equipped with world class, state–of–the–art scientific equipment.
-State–of–the–art technology and e–engineering tools that facilitate real–time global interaction with GE's businesses, technology centers, customers and suppliers.
-A Knowledge Centre, which is fully integrated with the facility, accesses and disseminates technical knowledge globally to accelerate competitive technology developments for the benefit of GE's customers.
-A Global Training Centre that can accommodate up to 125 employees.
