Rachana was born in Delhi. She attended the International Management Institute for a Master’s degree in International Business Management. She had her education in various parts of India and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Science in 1994.

Rachana started her career as a Management Trainee in Apollo Tyres in 1996. Worked for Alcatel and UTStarcom at a time when telecom revolution was at its peak in the country and was involved in designing entry strategy of various telecom initiatives. She joined Alstom in 2007 to head the communications function for the South Asia region and build the team across the region for all the sectors/businesses. Also lead the CSR initiatives for India in Alcatel and Alstom. She has extensively worked on sustainable development projects for the British Council in India. Rachana joined GE in 2012.

Rachana enjoys antique collection and has a wide collection of artifacts at home. She loves reading on various cultures and traditions. She has a lovely daughter of 8 years old and loves travelling with her daughter and husband.
