Developing Futures in New York City, New York
GE Foundation awarded the New York City Department of Education (DOE) a five-year education grant of $17.9 million to support education in Northern Manhattan. The largest-ever single corporate contribution to the New York City public school system will support reforms to better prepare middle school students for college and career opportunities, with a particular focus on improving achievement in math and science through broad, systemic reform.
In addition, GE Foundation awarded more than $11 million in grants to four Northern Manhattan-based educational organizations, extending our more than 15-year investment in New York’s youth. Recipient organizations include Columbia University Teachers College, The Council for Opportunity in Education, College for Every Student and Harlem Children’s Zone.
GE Foundation grants encourage Northern Manhattan’s extensive network of community organizations to work alongside local educators to develop a pilot program that will identify improvement strategies to significantly boost math and science performance. New York is the sixth city to participate in the Developing Futures program since 2005.
