Developing Futures in Atlanta, Georgia
Atlanta Public Schools, comprised of more than 100 schools and centers, received a five-year, $22 million education grant from GE Foundation to help revamp math and science learning in grades K-12. The grant is the largest private grant in the district’s history, and part of the education program of GE Foundation.
This $22 million grant, which builds on an earlier $1 million GE Foundation grant, is intended to support a comprehensive effort to improve student scores and learning in math and science, close achievement gaps and encourage more students to attend college. The grant targets curriculum development, systemic change across the entire school district, and school, business and community collaboration.
In addition to providing grant funds, GE Foundation takes its commitment to education one step further, with GE employees in Atlanta teaming with students and teachers to provide real-life, on-the-job learning opportunities. Students and teachers work on projects that address real-world problems involving math, science and technology.
