Mr. Mulva received a BBA degree and an MBA in finance from the University of Texas. After serving as an officer in the U.S. Navy, he joined Phillips Petroleum Company in 1973 and became its chief financial officer in 1990, when he also became a member of the company’s management committee. He was appointed senior vice president in 1993, executive vice president in 1994, president and chief operating officer in 1994 and served as chairman and chief executive officer from 1999 to 2002. He served as president and chief executive officer of ConocoPhillips from 2002 to 2004 and president, chief executive officer and chairman from 2004 until his retirement in May 2012, after the split of ConocoPhillips into two independent energy companies. Mr. Mulva served as chairman of the American Petroleum Institute in 2005 and 2006 and is a member of the board of visitors for the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, and is also a director of General Motors Company.
