Global Focus on Regulations
EHS and product-oriented regulations are growing globally and GE’s EHS, Sourcing, Technology and Research teams spend significant effort to manage this changing dynamic for GE’s operations and products as well as taking the necessary steps to ensure compliance.
For example, product regulations, ecomagination and GE research initiatives, such as nanotechnology, have made product stewardship increasingly important for GE. To support GE’s nanotechnology programs, GE has developed an internal Safe Working & Management Practices Guideline and supply chain communication guidance for material safety data sheets that contain nanomaterials. GE is active in the United States and Canadian technical advisory groups to the ISO Technical Committee on nanotechnology. GE is also one of 29 companies to have joined USEPA’s voluntary Nanomaterials Product Stewardship Program.
To support product growth and development, GE has also established cross-business task forces to focus on achieving compliance with the European Union’s new REACH rules and developed a new Gensuite application to aid our businesses in making and tracking submissions to the EU. GE has also established GE networks in North America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region to manage compliance with new Waste Electronics Takeback rules and Restrictions on Hazardous Substances in products.
