GE & London 2012
GE is working with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) to help schools around the United Kingdom take part in the official London 2012 education programme, called Get Set.
GE volunteers and LOCOG staff are running a series of interactive workshops to get students thinking about the Olympic and Paralympic values of courage, determination, inspiration, equality, respect, friendship and excellence. Young people plan initiatives and activities inspired by the Games that could make a difference within their own schools.
The first five workshops were held in March 2009 and reached approximately 500 students and 50 schools in Cornwall, Scotland, Buckinghamshire and London. At each location, 10 GE staff members gave their time to help run the workshops.
Nick Fuller, Head of Education and the London 2012 Organising Committee said: “GE is lending valuable staff time and expertise to bring ‘Get Set’ and the London 2012 Games alive for children and young people in areas around their major U.K. sites. Volunteering and children underpin the Olympic and Paralympic movements and through this programme GE is bringing to bear a powerful combination of both for the benefit of their staff and local communities.”
