Brief History

The company traces its beginnings to Thomas A. Edison, who established Edison Electric Light Company in 1878. In 1892, a merger of Edison General Electric Company and Thomson-Houston Electric Company created General Electric Company. GE is the only company listed in the Dow Jones Industrial Index today that was also included in the original index in 1896. GE is present in South East Europe since 1960’s with one regional headquarter in Serbia.

GE has been present in SEE since 1909, and today it is a partner for growth in the region. There are over 100 GE employees in SEE across 11 countries including Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Kosovo, Malta, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia. Gaetano Massara is the GE CEO for SEE based in Belgrade.

GE Power Generation is the market leader in Greece with 4+GW of heavy duty gas turbines also installed in Croatia and Cyprus.

GE Distributed Power 400MW aeroderivative gas turbines and gas engines are installed in Greece. Several cogeneration and trigeneration installations were set up in Croatia and Serbia.

GE Water delivered an MBR water filtration to the city of Tuzla in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Being the world leader in wind turbines installations, in 2014 GE Wind installed the best-in-class wind turbines generators into the 34MW Rudine Wind Farm in Croatia and we intend to have many more successful wind turbines installations across SEE, in order to help the countries of the region generate clean energy and reach their EU 2020 targets.
