IT Internship Program Summary

The IT Internship Program allows students who are looking for a placement year to gain valuable experience in a 12 month assignment within one of GE's major business units. The program consists of an intensive combination of on the job training in various technologies and formal in-class coursework in advanced information technology concepts, finance, leadership, and business skills.

Assignment Opportunities

Information Technology Interns are assigned challenging projects with real business impact - during your year as an IT Intern you'll be making a real difference to GE, undertaking projects in the following areas:

  • Application development
  • Systems management
  • Business process re-engineering
  • Infrastructure management
  • Security/controllership
  • Customer support
  • Project management

The assignments are designed to expose you to a wide range of technologies used across GE and to Lean Six Sigma methodologies used to solve complex business problems, ensuring you are always developing your skills. Interns have significant exposure to key IT and business leaders at GE as well as current full-time ITLP members.

A successful internship with GE can lead to full time opportunities; after graduation IT Interns often go on to join GE's Information Technology Leadership Programme (ITLP). ITLP is a two year world-class leadership development program, designed to attract high potential candidates with a passion and aptitude for technology and to further develop their technical, leadership and business skills as they transition from academia to the working world.

Candidate Criteria

  • Applicants should be in their second year of University, looking to undertake a 12 month work placement.
  • Proven academic excellence throughout their educational career, showing evidence of being on-track for a degree in a quantitative discipline - Computer Science / Management Information Systems / Mathematics / Engineering preferred. Business degree with IT related experience may be applicable.
  • Showing a passion and aptitude for technology is essential.
  • An ideal candidate will have exposure to working in teams and understand the lifecycle and management of IT projects. Demonstrating strong communication and leadership skills, along with solid analytical abilities and sharp business acumen is also desirable.
