The program seeks to develop the leadership skills, business mastery, and change management expertise, as these skills are critical for the functioning and success of the IM function within GE. The duration of this program is 24 months and includes four specific assignments, coupled with intense classroom and distance learning opportunities during which they are closely mentored by Senior IT leaders and business CIOs. IMLP consistently develops GE's next generation of leaders in Information Management. Preferred Candidate Criteria

IMLP candidates for the India IMLP program are preferred to have a Masters degree in Business Administration, with two or more years of relevant work experience in the area of Information Technology.

Above all, you should be a high achiever prepared to join a company dedicated to technical leadership across an incredibly diverse range of businesses.

Hiring Process

GE hires IMLPs in India mainly through 4 channels:

  • Internships: GE offers a 2-month internship program to students belonging to a set of distinguished business schools in India and based on the performance of the intern, may choose to offer a position as an IMLP. This is increasingly becoming the main channel for hiring talent for the IMLP Program.
  • Final Campus placements: GE visits some of the distinguished business schools in India for final campus placements, where students are hired after they clear multiple rounds of interviews with GE leaders.
  • Internal Hire: An internal employee in GE may be hired for the IMLP program based on previous performance of the candidate and clearing the selection process. Generally, the candidate would have worked in GE for a minimum period of 2 years.
  • External Hire: In some cases, GE may choose to hire people externally for the IMLP program if there is a business demand.

IMLP Trainings

Bootcamps

The Bootcamp is the perfect way to kickstart the IMLP journey. The 2-year program has 2 intensive contact programs called the Junior and Senior Bootcamps:

  • Junior Bootcamp: This is a 4-week course that challenges participants to give their personal best in terms of individual assignments, classroom discussion and teamwork and offers a variety of educational and social activities. This is first opportunity you get to meet your global peers and work in global teams on areas like presentation skills, project management, Six Sigma and Lean and technical projects. This is held at the beginning of the IMLP program.
  • Senior Bootcamp: This is a 3-week long contact program, held at the end of 2 rotations, mainly focusing on topics like business intelligence, networking and simulation games. The preparation for the bootcamp begins months earlier in the form of a distance-learning course.

The bootcamps give an IMLP in India the opportunity to meet his/her global peers and visit different geographies.

Foundation of GE Leadership (FOL)

As part of the Crotonville learning initiative, every IMLP has to undergo a weeklong contact program conducted at one of the offsite locations. The theme of the training program is Leadership and grooms IMLPs for future leadership positions.

Distance Learning Programs

Apart from the bootcamp and FOL, there are several distance programs where IMLPs team up with global peers and work on business cases. It gives IMLPs an opportunity to work in a distributed environment with people based out of different geographies.

Apart from the mandatory trainings listed above, there are plenty of training programs like Six Sigma Green Belt and Black Belt training which can be taken up based on business need and sponsorship.

Off-Program roles

After an IMLP successfully completes the 2-year program, he/she would have the opportunity to apply for open positions across GE businesses.

You could also be one of the IMLP graduates selected to join the GE Corporate Audit Staff, which is an intensive two-plus year audit and leadership program designed to provide high potential employees with intensive on-the-job development opportunities, extensive contact with the different businesses within GE, and valuable personal contacts that can accelerate your career at GE.
