What were you doing before joining GE?

Prior to joining GE, as part of my degree, I completed a twelve month Internship with the Royal Bank of Scotland. After graduating from University I joined a small independent company and began training as a mortgage advisor. Having achieved the first stages of my Certificate for Financial Advisors and Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice I decided to change career paths in light of the economic downturn.

Why did you decide to join GE?

I had some knowledge of GE before joining the company; however had not fully appreciated the huge diversity and vast global presence of GE. These aspects, along with a strong ethos of meritocracy, became very apparent to me in my initial interview. GE offered enormously promising career prospects and made an offer I could not refuse.

My initial impressions were rewarded when, after two years working in the commercial business, I was approached to join one of GE's leadership programs, the ITLP. This was a fantastic opportunity that I seized with both hands, and since joining have never looked back.

What are you working on?

I am currently working in the UK platform for the Business Intelligence team, primarily focusing on the equipment finance sector of the Capital business. My role is as project manager working on the wing to wing implementation of a reporting dashboard for the UK leasing business. The dashboard will provide automated, real time, performance information on all UK leasing vendors, Information that is vital to drive a continuous process improvement culture, commercial excellence, and to optimise our financial performance.

This role provides me with opportunities to put into practice a number of the skills I have developed and knowledge gained from my training so far. As PM I have the responsibility of driving the project through the complete project life cycle touching all five tollgates. Encompassed in this I am tackling the build aspect of the project and stretching my technical expertise, vital for any successful ITLP.

What has been most rewarding about your GE experience?

The opportunity to network with such a varied and vast pool of individuals is truly unique to an organisation such as GE. During my time with GE I have developed a large network of friends and colleagues. Moving onto a leadership program has only furthered this experience offering access to a truly global network on all levels. I am extremely grateful to have been selected for a GE leadership program. The standard of training received is second to none, and I have no doubt will build the foundations for a long and successful career with GE.
