I was attending Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA, pursuing my engineering degree. The summer before my senior year I interned in Schenectady and worked with the Wind Configuration Management team. Towards the end of my internship I applied for the Operations Management Leadership Program (OMLP). I was accepted and started my GE career the following summer.
I decided to join GE because it is a large, multinational company with excellent leadership programs, its diversity of products, and numerous career opportunities.
Currently, I'm working on a global team to research and create innovative and sustainable strategies on how we attract, develop, and inspire GE employees in the 21st century. Our Chairman has been in his position for 10 years and out of Session C they wanted to be proactive about how we operate over the next 10 years.
When this project is complete, I will be transitioning to a new position as an MRP/buyer for our gas turbine plant in Greenville, South Carolina.
One rewarding experience I've had in GE was working with a cross-functional team in our Aeroderivative business to reduce and reapply inactive inventory. We were able identify, research, and disposition over $6MM worth of inventory to be reapplied to current and future units. The cross-functional team, which included employees from engineering, materials, and sourcing functions, worked extremely well together.
