Why did you decide to join GE?

I wanted to join a company that would offer me the greatest breadth of opportunity and exposure to some of the most capable business leaders around. GE is one of the most successful and respected companies in the world and its Financial Management Program offered me an experience unlike any other graduate program. Over four rotations and targeted coursework, the FMP provides a rare opportunity to develop a broad range of technical and business skills. Upon completion of the program there is tremendous scope to forge an exciting career in this global company.

What are you working on?

After a great year working in Sydney with GE Real Estate and then GE Healthcare, I have recently returned to Melbourne for my third rotation with the Financial Planning and Analysis team in GE Capital. In this role I am responsible for all headcount reporting both internally and to our regional headquarters in Japan. I am also leading an initiative to centralize our accounting for variable incentive compensation into one intergrated process. This rotation is providing great opportunity to understand the financial planning and analysis side of finance.

What has your experience been like in the Financial Management Program?

The best way I can describe the FMP is diverse. Every rotation is unique and every day presents new challenges and opportunities. From working with property management companies in Real Estate, looking at revenue recognition at Healthcare and internal financial reporting at GE Capital, the FMP has provided me a varied and stimulating array of professional experience.

The on-the-job experience is supplmented by training and development that prepares FMP's to become future finance leaders in GE. Each rotation is accompanied by specialized coursework that helps extend our technical skills while also developing our leaderships skills in presentation, communication and teamwork.

A highlight for me was attending GE's week long Foundations of Leadership course in Sydney. It was a great opportunity to identify different leadership styles and refine some of the skills that make a successful business leader. The course was capped off with a graduation dinner with some of GE's most senior business leaders in attendance.

One of the best aspects of the program is the network that you build over the two years. I have been fortunate to work alongside some great colleagues and leaders that have provided me great support and guidance. If I am ever looking for help or advice I know there is that large support network I can turn to.
