Before GE I worked for four years for Philips Medical Systems as a Field Service Engineer for Magnetic Resonance and Nuclear Medicine devices. My experience working for large companies started in ALENIA Spazio, the Italian aerospace company, where I was an engineer for test conduction on spacecraft and team leader of a team of 15. I followed the launch campaign from Cape Canaveral U.S.A. and Baikonur Kazakistan.
When you set goals for yourself, you have to aim high, and GE surely represents one of the most important companies worldwide. GE is everywhere. It has a dynamic structure but is very solid, and has rules and training system that allow every single employee to become an integral part of GE. GE has a very different way of doing business; the attention to the customer needs is a priority, and this mean that the people that work for GE are directly responsible for a lot of good business.
I began in GE as a Field Service Engineer for Cyclotron and Radiochemistry systems, but thanks to my previous experience in magnetic resonance I am again focusing on magnetic resonances, which is my preference. For a couple of years I worked together with a colleague as the role of Technical Support ad Interim, and after that, in June 2008, I was nominated Project Leader in the application of the LEAN. I'm still a Field Service Engineer, but I have more responsibilities thanks to the application of LEAN procedures that result in economic savings for my group. Since October 2008 I am also a member of the Service Engineer Leadership Program (SELP) a team of select people in EMEA that work together to obtain the best suggestions and build projects to help service people.
It was of course participation at SELP. SELP is an eye-opening experience that allows participants to look beyond the limits of their own field.
It taught me about people of completely different cultures who do the same job we do and have the same type of problems we face every day. Sharing with other people of different cultures and experiencing their approaches to problem solving has definitely broadened my horizons. Thanks to the training courses we participate in and the challenges we face, working as part of a worldwide international team has really been an electrifying experience.
