What were you doing before joining GE?

I joined GE as my first company after having an internship with a smaller IT company and an IT Magazine. From the start I loved in comparison the freedom that was given for personal development and the flat hierarchy. Every idea is being heard and taken into consideration, independent of the level of the person. My technical background from my studies definitely helped me to get off to a great start and was valued by other members on the team.

Why did you decide to join GE?

A major factor was the breadth of the organization for me. GE is split up into multiple units that allow getting a unique insight into the way a company works. It ranges from large manufacturing operations over high-tech Biosciences development to new media with NBC Universal. In addition are the possibilities of leadership development unrivalled, as demonstrated by the Information Technology Leadership Program. Within two years I was able to experience different roles with high responsibility. I could not have learned this much in a single role.

What are you working on?

I am the Global Business Analyst for GE Healthcare Life Sciences for Sales, Marketing and Service. I assumed this role after graduating from ITLP in September 2008. My responsibility is to analyze business processes globally, assist in the identification of areas to improve, promote change within the business and execute implementations. I work very closely with the business leadership team to understand their strategy and needs and to pro-actively align IT solutions to them. This role gives me responsibility for budget, people and stakeholder engagement. It combines technical, managerial and project management skills and I learned those through my ITLP rotations.

What has been most rewarding about your GE experience?

The most rewarding experience is to come to work every day and interact with so many talented and motivated people. It is a great team; everybody keeps a positive attitude and wants to make a real change for the business. Colleagues, Mentors and Managers have become friends over time and I was able to build a strong network all over the world. At the same time is it a good feeling to work for GE Healthcare in the knowledge that our work helps people around the globe to stay or get healthy and to be able to enjoy their lives to the fullest.
