Prior to a full-time job with GE Energy I was working towards my undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering at NC State University. Among other leadership roles, I was a university tutor, WISE mentor (Women In Science and Engineering) and the President of the Recreational Sports Board of Directors, which worked with the NC State facilities director to improve the campus recreational facilities, fields, and gyms. I also interned with GE Energy over one summer and worked on the direct material productivity of radially-cooled turbine buckets.
GE Energy has several characteristics that I highly value, and I've learned are very rare to find collectively, within one company. GE Energy provides a wide breadth of innovative technologies and an internationally diverse group of people to work with. The company also places an emphasis on both personal and professional development and has really created a synergistic atmosphere of learning and making an impact through on-site and university classes, hands-on training, and challenging and diverse positions.
My current role is within the Gas Turbine Accessories New Product Introduction group, where I am redesigning and optimizing system level gas turbine components. Over my last three Edison rotations I have also been afforded the opportunities to design an IGCC (Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle) Feed Injector Helical Water Jacket Tip and develop the first-ever fully-integrated IGCC Plant Schedule, which includes the front end engineering design, risk abatement, budget and resource plans, for a cutting-edge Test Facility. I have also redesigned a front stage of a compressor in the GE fleet, to include the latest performance enhancements. These four diverse rotations have provided thought-provoking deep-dive and system-level design experiences.
The most rewarding parts of my GE experience are centered on the company's understanding and value placed on the professional and personal growth of the employees. The opportunities through the Edison Program to quickly develop effective design, communication, influencing, and networking skills while providing impactful business contributions and gaining very diverse learning experiences has been exciting and challenging. Through each of my four technologically unique rotations, I've had the privilege to work with incredibly talented people, all of who have been very willing to mentor, teach, and learn.
All of these factors set the groundwork for a world-class GE team and technology for our customers, which I'm excited to be a part of!
