I joined GE as my first company after finishing my studies in Mexico City. During my last year at the university I got involved in different projects regarding sustainable energy for applications in the campus. One of the things I liked a lot was the opportunity to contribute to the design and construction of a vehicle that works on hydrogen fuel cells. I met several people within the energy business in Mexico and I learned a lot. Since I joined GE I moved to Queretaro city, about two hours from Mexico city.
Since I was a child I had an interest for airplanes and aeronautics. I frequently went to the airport only to look at the takeoff and landing operations. When I realized that some of the aircraft engines were built by GE, I was amazed. With this background and my passion for engineering, joining GE was a natural step. I also recognized that GE offers a wide set of development opportunities, such as the Edison program, where I had the opportunity to get closer to the aviation world.
During my time at GE Aviation I have worked with different disciplines within engineering. I started work on analysis and design of electrical systems for marine, industrial and aircraft engines. These components include temperature, pressure, speed and vibration sensors, as well as electrical harnesses. After that, I moved to the structural analysis team where I worked on manufacturing support for the engine compressor cases and analysis of structural integrity for several engine components. Then I started work on dynamic analysis of the mechanisms that controls the air flow along the compressor and supporting field issues, mostly for small and medium regional jet applications. Currently I am working on the performance analysis for large commercial jet engine applications.
A lot of things have been rewarding, but I would like to highlight the opportunity to work with some of the most intelligent, capable and experienced engineers around the world. The knowledge that some of your contributions are flying on an engine right now, assuring that our engines run smoothly, and that our products are the best in their type -- this is very rewarding both on a professional and personal level.
