Program Summary
The Investment Analyst program is part of GE Capital, Americas (GECA) a GE Capital business which functions like a bank: companies in need of liquidity come to GE for a loan. GE extends these loans in exchange for a lien on certain collateral. Since collateral is the insurance GE has for loans, it is essential to monitor it. The IA program is a key component in protecting GE's interest in a borrower's collateral.
Investment Analysts visit clients to check in on how the business is doing and the state of the pledged collateral. Since GE lends to a number of companies across North America and in many industries, IA's have the opportunity to obtain a behind the scenes view of various industries and learn and learn about different companies. Intensive training and exposure to a variety of industries provide the experience you need to learn commercial lending's role in helping businesses function. While most IA's pursue a career in commercial lending after completing the program, as part of a large, multi-business company such as GE the opportunities are limitless.
On the Road
IA Program participants travel in teams of two or three to client sites located across the US and Canada. They tour the client's facilities and meet with management to learn the business. Working with the client's senior management to gather key information for analysis, they select and test data samples using excel models to identify financial risk. Members also work with an audit team to analyze data and communicate audit findings. Participants visit multiple cities across the US and enjoy the perks of being a frequent traveler!
At the Office
IA Program members also report audit findings and formulate recommendations for Underwriters/Credit Risk Account Managers. They prepare for the next audit by researching the business, meeting the loan portfolio managers and coordinating logistics to get to the client's location. Education is a vital component of the experience, and the program includes Training & Speaker Sessions focused on helping IA's plan future career steps. In addition, members work on special projects to support IA Program enhancements.
