Clean, Renewable Energy in British Columbia

Together with GE Capital's Energy Financial Services, Alterra Power Corp's East Toba Montrose hydroelectric project in British Columbia is that province's largest run-of-river hydro plant.

The project delivers enough power for 75,000 homes while displacing 419,000 metric tonnes of greenhouse gases annually. Unlike traditional hydroelectric facilities, run-of-river projects divert a portion of the river flow into a pipe. This transmits the water downhill to a generating station where the natural force of gravity creates the energy required to spin the electricity generating turbines. The water leaves the generating station and is returned to the river. It's just one more way GE is helping to build a stronger Canada.
