M. Elyse Allan

President and CEO, GE Canada

In her role as President and Chief Executive Officer of GE Canada and Vice President, GE, Elyse is responsible for growing GE’s business in Canada and advancing the company’s leadership in advanced technology, services and finance.

Her appointment in October 2004 marked Elyse’s return to GE, where she began her career in 1984. Her career with GE has spanned the US, Canada and work with several industrial and consumer businesses including aircraft engines, energy and lighting. Prior to her current role, Elyse was President and CEO of the Toronto Board of Trade and, before that, a senior executive at Ontario Hydro responsible for marketing, technology and demand management.

Elyse is a passionate champion for Canada’s competitiveness and she is active in many issues that influence the country’s productivity and competitive advantage. She is a strong advocate for advancing the country’s science and technology base and competitive fiscal policy.

Along with her work at GE, Elyse has significant industry and community engagement. She sits on several Boards of Directors including the Executive committee for the Canadian Council of Chief Executives, as well as the C.D. Howe Institute. She just completed her tenure as Chair for the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. Elyse also served on various government advisory boards such as Minister Flaherty’s Federal Finance Advisory Committee, Premier Stelmach’s Council for Alberta’s Economic Strategy, Ontario’s Metrolinx Transitional Committee and Board of Directors, and the National Roundtable on the Environment and the Economy.

Elyse has been recognized by Canadian Business Magazine as one of the 25 Most Powerful People in Canada, as one of Canada’s Top Women of Influence by The Women Executive Network, and is a YWCA 2012 Business Woman of Distinction award recipient.

Elyse earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology & Environmental Studies from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire and an MBA from the Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth. She has served her alma mater as a member of the Board of Visitors for the Rockefeller Center for Public Policy, class fundraising chair and currently serves as an Overseer of the Tuck Business School. Elyse holds an honorary doctorate from Ryerson University in Toronto
