[[Latin America EPC Summit, Highlights]]

[[Location: Santiago, Chile]]

[This is an extremely valuable event for us,]

[because in a single day]

[we have gotten in touch with up to 70]

[different engineering and procurement companies]

[that are globally based. ]

[[Hugo Silva, Latin America Region Leader-GE Mining Solutions]]

[So this is really a very cost-effective way of getting in touch with the ]

[very important engineering community. ]

[[Peter Carter, global Leader-GE Mining Solutions]]

[The EPC community has quite a large critical mass here. ]

[The amount of projects that have been implemented in Chile]

[over the last decade and the number of new projects]

[that are planned here in Peru and Brazil]

[is enormous. ]

[We have to have partners to execute on a global basis. ]

[[Jim Suciu, President, Sales&Marketing, GE Energy]]

[And we're going to continue to grow, and we're going to grow with our partners.]

[That's one of the themes of these events is that ]

[we're both going to grow together,]

[and it's not about just GE technology, ]

[but it's about working with our partners to execute on a global basis. ]

[[Fernando Garcia, Senior VP, Latin America-SNC Lavalin]]

[Our company is an engineering and construction company.]

[We are integrators of different technologies. ]

[The way that General Electric really ]

[provides an excellent technologies]

[not only for the mining industry ]

[but all the supporting structure and the water management]

[and the infrastructures. ]

[I think it's important to have these kind of alliances.]

[[Jose Luis Fernandez, GM, Foster Wheeler-Chile]]

[Now is Foster Wheeler in Chile, but we are trying to]

[extend this collaboration to other countries. ]

[[Shane Fitzsimons, CFO-GE Global Growth Operations]]

[It's a big area. ]

[I think it's interesting because it's multi-business, it's multi-region, ]

[so things that you learn in one region, or in one business,]

[apply in others, and I think that's where it kind of comes together. ]

[A summit like this is great to kind of connect those dots]

[either commercially or as a finance function. ]

[[John Lavelle, VP-GE Projects Operation] ]

[I think it's great. ]

[These things are always great opportunities to get together and network with 150 people]

[from around the industry, so it's efficient use of your time. ]

[We actually have a number of dinners and side meetings.]

[We're doing actual negotiations and deal structuring]

[with some of these companies, and it's a great opportunity to learn. ]

[Take a look at the agenda, ]

[having the CEO of Codelco, ]

[having a foreign minister of mines doing the keynote speech, ]

[providing that insight to the audience is so important. ]

[How do we get the appropriate power solutions?]

[What energy intensive extraction and processing?]

[The water management we're moving into areas where ]

[the scarcity of water and the emphasis]

[to reuse and manage the quality of water]

[as it impacts the communities that we now move closer to. ]

[[applause]]

[We always do a better job if we focus. ]

[[Magued Eldaief, Executive Director, Energy Accounts-GE Energy]]

[The reason why we put a global industries group together is]

[because we wanted to focus on those particular industries and have that domain,]

[expertise, and knowledge to be successful in those industries. ]

[So having events that are focused like this one]

[makes us smarter about what we need to be doing better]

[in order to be successful in that space. ]

[[Diego Hernandez, CEO-Codelco]]

[I think that we need to continue this partnership.]

[Of course, one issue is that ]

[GE is a very big company.]

[We are also a very big company.]

[The relationship between big companies is not obvious. ]

[We need to know how to ]

[take advantage of that relationship,]

[and of course to take advantage ]

[you need to know better]

[people in each organization. ]

[That's an additional value to what we are doing here today. ]
