[[male speakers conversing over radio]]

[[Just bring your plane, your sleeping bags, your camera and your passion for flight.]]

[[male speaker over radio] No one's ever told me what that's like--a walk in the park.]

[[male speaker over radio] Flight Cessna for Runway 3-6, Oshkosh Tower.]

[Let me know when you're ready to go.]

[[male speaker] Oshkosh is the world's single largest air show.]

[[♪upbeat music♪]]

[Unbelievable diversity of thought]

[and unbelievable diversity in airplanes.]

[It's just a great place.]

[[♪♪]]

[[engine roaring] [crowd cheering and applauding]]

[[male speaker] It's so much more than a trade show.]

[A lot of other airshows are about trade and it's about commerce.]

[This is about passion.]

[[male speaker] There are technology forums where you can actually get your hands dirty.]

[There are vintage aircraft, so you can learn all about those.]

[There's really a broad spectrum of interest]

[that comes here at the AirVenture.]

[[male speaker] It is a place where you can meet innovative people,]

[and they show all kinds of diverse products for the future,]

[and it makes it so different.]

[Plus the passion--you meet with passionate people]

[doing fantastic things.]

[[♪♪] [airplane engine roaring]]

[[male speaker] You call it an air show, ]

[but the air show is a 3-hour event that happens each day.]

[It's a family gathering of people,]

[and here's half a million people from around the world]

[who get together this one week out of the year to share this common passion.]

[[♪♪] [engine roaring]]

[[engines roaring]]

[[engine roaring]]

[[engines roaring]]

[[If you're looking for the next big innovations in the air, there's no better place to explore.]]

[[♪♪]]

[[male speaker] Oshkosh is literally hundreds of acres of ideas.]

[And so our goal of being here this week]

[[Chet Fuller - Chief Marketing Officer, GE Aviation]]

[is to try to harvest some of those ideas.]

[[♪♪]]

[A group of us at GE and a group of us at Airbus got together and said,]

["Hey, let's pair off our advanced engineering team]

[and let's see how many good ideas can come from on the grounds of Oshkosh."]

[[♪♪] [engine roaring]]

[Innovation is all about people, and it's all about individual people.]

[Innovation isn't a corporate agenda, it's not a machine you can turn on or turn off.]

[It's individual intellect creating something, and that's what we find here.]

[We find it here en masse.]

[[♪♪]]

[[male speaker] We're here on an innovation treasure hunt at Oshkosh,]

[looking for new ideas and new concepts.]

[It's a great place to come for that kind of thing]

[[Don Morrow - Vice President, Platform Computing Systems, GE Aviation]]

[because this is really the birthplace of a lot of new technology in aviation]

[and all kinds of opportunities to find new things.]

[[male speaker] And yes, there's trade around it. Yes, this is a business.]

[But that's not what it's about. It's about the people and how much they love aviation.]

[[Jon Irving - Senior Manager, Overall Aircraft Design - Future Programs, Airbus Industrie]]

[And we've come here to try and get some of that to rub off on us,]

[to make us fresh, to make us reinvigorate that passion that we already have]

[to really push us to the next level.]

[[♪♪] [engine roaring]]

[[male speaker] We have to imagine the world of tomorrow.]

[And, you also have to reflect on what could happen over the next hundred years.]

[[Philippe Jarry - Vice President, Market Development - Future Programs, Airbus Industrie]]

[How will the people fly? What will be the shape of the future airplanes?]

[What will be the energy that we will use in the future engines?]

[So on and so forth. There is no end to it. There is no limit.]

[[♪♪]]

[[engine roaring]]

[[♪♪] [It doesn't matter if it's your first year or your tenth, it will feel like coming home.]]

[[♪♪]]

[My name is Juliette Cosh and I'm a pilot.]

[[engine rumbling]]

[[Juliette Cosh - FAA Member Since 1998] I built my own plane with my husband.]

[We definitely have areas of expertise that we learned along the way.]

[I love the riveting, the fiberglassing, and just attention to detail.]

[[♪♪]]

[He's definitely the electrical and engine man.]

[So together we make quite a team.]

[My name is Roger Cosh, and I helped my wife build an airplane.]

[[Roger Cosh - FAA Member Since 1998] My skills were in working on the engines,]

[and she took care of everything else.]

[[♪♪]]

[[J. Cosh] What I really remember is how at nighttime,]

[at 3:00 in the morning, I would just say, "Are you awake?"]

[And I'd hear a, "Yep." "Well, I've got this idea."]

["I think this is how we can fix this problem that we're having."]

[And it also gives you a great feeling when you accomplish it]

[and you can actually see the plane fly then later.]

[[♪♪]]

[[Mark Neubauer - Lead Engineer, GE Aviation] My name is Mark Neubauer.]

[I live in Cincinnati, Ohio, and I've been a pilot for 32 years]

[and have been coming to Oshkosh for 15 years. [♪♪]]

[The group of people that build airplanes--you won't find a more creative,]

[meticulous group of people to work with,]

[and that is one of the most rewarding parts is meeting these people]

[that share this common, not only passion, but this mindset]

[about how to approach problem solving.]

[It's unsurpassed.]

[One of the rituals I have is the last day I'm here]

[I get up early in the morning, by about 6:00 at dawn,]

[and I'll just walk out to the main portion of the area and stand in the center of it]

[and take it in.]

[You're frequently at a loss for words as to what it means to come here,]

[but I look forward to it.]

[Next week I'll go home and I'll start thinking about coming back here next July.]
