[Hi, my name is David Gallagher.]
[I'm an evaluation specialist at GE Aviation at the Evendale plant in Cincinnati, Ohio.]
[This is my airplane that I built in my garage.]
[This is called a Zenith ZODIAC aircraft.]
[I built this over the course of 22 months.]
[It took me about 800 hours of labor, and right now I have 150 hours of flight time on it.]
[I've been coming to Oshkosh ever since 1975, when we were kids.]
[My father brought all of us up here; this was just a playground at the time.]
[I'm a pilot. My brother is a pilot. My father is a retired airline pilot.]
[And as we would come here year after year, my experience would evolve.]
[When I got into the high school and college age, this now became a learning ground--]
[more a learning ground than a playground. ]
[As I grew into an adult and started volunteering over in the warbirds area,]
[where I volunteer, it became more of a family event where--there are people here]
[I only meet at Oshkosh. I meet them once a year. ]
[And I've watched their children grow up. They've watched my children grow up.]
[Now that I've got my own home-built airplane--again, it's another learning experience. ]
[I meet other people with the same type of aircraft and feature with the same type of ]
[challenges to get one built and to get it flying, to be able to fly it safe. ]
[So this is the place where it's all happening. ]
[As a GE employee, I'm really glad to see that GE now has a fairly large presence]
[here at the AirVenture Convention, especially in 2010.]
[They have the GE Honda booth. There is the GE Aviation booth.]
[There is the GE Aviation learning center, which is just behind me,]
[with all of the innovations around electric flight. I see that as being pretty exciting. ]
[My aircraft here could easily be converted into an electric motor--you know--]
[at some time in the future, if the availability of aviation fuels becomes scarce.]
[And as the innovations and the efficiency get better, I could easily see myself]
[putting an electric motor in and flying this airplane just as I fly it today.]
