[[Freighliner Group Visit - Erie, Pennsylvania, USA - August 19, 2009]]

[[Peter Maybury - CEO, Freighliner] Certainly from what I've seen]

[over the last couple of days, it seems like we're in particularly good hands,]

[and I've enjoyed it immensely so far.]

[Every single customer who uses Freightliner has got a choice.]

[There is not one customer who uses us who has to use us,]

[and we have to deliver to the promise.]

[We had the great surprise of turning the corner]

[and seeing this--my first sight almost brought tears to my eyes [laughter]--]

[of seeing the two locomotives that are there in the finished livery,]

[and they look fantastic.]

[They're going to take the thing by storm.]

[What we buy now will last and be the platform for the next 30 years,]

[so we need to buy the best technology available.]

[The Freightliner perspective in terms of what we needed,]

[we needed higher horsepower and tractive effort.]

[We needed to work with a partner who could support their product]

[after we started to take delivery,]

[and of course like with everything these days, it's always a challenging time scale.]

[As far as GE meeting the challenges, ]

[the PowerHaul design so far has met all the standards.]

[The word--I don't know if it transfers across in terms of the context that we've used it there--]

[we like to say in the UK there are some elegant solutions to the problems faced.]

[The loco is on target for authorization--something we call a mulligation--]

[and it's a credit to the GE team in all of the disciplines]

[and certainly we see this as a partnership that we're proud of.]

[Our customers and competitors are watching.]

[This has had some fantastic coverage in the UK,]

[and I want to get all of the good messages about this loco out there.]

[But they'll be watching; they'll be watching for a successful interaction,]

[for the service experience and the troubleshooting that will go with it,]

[for seamless addressing of the inevitable teething problems,]

[and we want to give them a product that also raises that bar of expectation,]

[and I'm sure we will.]

[The thing that shines out is the commitment to doing a good job]

[and the teamwork.]

[The teamwork has been great. It really has been good to see.]

[The ride tests went well.]

[There's no question that you guys have done a great job there.]

[Some of the stuff on the cooling packaging, ]

[which has particularly struck home with me,]

[the front end crash redesign--]

[all of that has been really impressive.]

[It couldn't have gone better.]

[I've been really impressed with everything I've seen here,]

[so thank you, every one of you, because I'm sure all of you have played a part in it so far]

[because you wouldn't be here if you hadn't.]

[Thank you very much for what you've done.]

[Let's finish the job off, let's finish it off well,]

[and let's hope it's the first of many.]

[Thank you very much. [applause]]
