[[♪upbeat music♪] [Bangor, Maine]]
[ Sixteen pounds. This hammer is heavy.]
[[hammer pounds] Swinging this many times as hard as you can swing it]
[[Kevin Leonard - Rotor Assembler] ]
[will take a toll on your body.]
[Shock load hurts on your arms, your elbows, shoulders,]
[[Jarrod Duran - Assembly Operator] overall, everything. [chuckles]]
[It takes everything you've got. [hammer pounding]]
[The consequences were they were going to injure themselves.]
[[Scott Mason - Maintenance Craftsman]]
[And we knew we had to make this work.]
[I am not going to miss this hammer at all. Not at all.]
[[horns blowing] [hammer] Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye. Woo!]

[[Now a One-person Job] One person now. It used to be two or three of us.]
[It's a lot different time-wise. [Was Up to a Four Hour Job]]
[We used to go for three to four hours sometimes putting them down.]
[Now we can go within 15-20 minutes [Now Takes About Fifteen Minutes]]
[setting it up and rolling it over the lock and putting her down by yourself.]
[[Greg Fournier - Process Leader] It feels good. The guys are really excited about it.]
[It feels really good that we hit a home run.]
[[The Lock Driver Didn't Invent Itself...] [♪♪]]
[[Jim Howes - Production Engineering Leader] We'll select some of the top ideas]
[that are developed in the teams.]
[[Brent Brown - Production Support] We gave every one of them a fair shake]
[and then after that, sat down and talked and discussed.]
[Basically what we're looking for is will it work at all?]
[Is there things that we're just plain missing when we're thinking of these concepts?]
[[♪♪] [Trystorming: Surprassing brainstorming, quickly trying new ideas and mock-ups.]]
[And the trystorming gives us the method to really see if the idea makes sense at all.]
[Some things look really, really good on paper,]
[and when you put them into practice, they're just not going to work.]
[The failed ideas are sometimes the things you learn the most from.]
[We sat down and we drew it up. We had high expectations.]
[It's important to have all of the stakeholders involved:]
[the engineering side, the manufacturing side, everything.]
[And the good thing is--I say manufacturing and engineering sides--]
[when it's a team, there are no sides; you're all working to one effort. It's great.]
[[Zachary Bradigan - EHS Supervisor] This team delivered in a way we never thought possible.]
[They certainly exceeded our expectations.]
[We're fairly small in some of the stuff that we do,]
[but there is actually plants that have bigger stuff]
[and have to drive even more than we do,]
[and I think that they could use it too.]
[Not only did we go after helping people's ergonomics here in our assembly area,]
[[Eric Anderson - Rotor Shop Manager]]
[but we also got a great benefit out of it as well.]
[We're saving $33,000 a year in the assembly process.]
[Each one of these stages that we've put in we've reduced our assembly time]
[If you put enough minds on it that are skilled at doing what they're doing,]
[they'll come up with the right solutions for you.]
[A lot of them going home pain-free in the same way they came in here.]
[And they want to have all ten fingers and toes.]
[It made everybody feel better at the end of the day as well as hit the bottom line.]
[If we just do everything as a team here in Bangor,]
[we can accomplish just about anything here.]
[To know that I don't have to swing that 16-pound hammer]
[and this is going to do the job for me, awesome. I love it. [chuckles] ]
[I love it. Yeah, it's great.]
[[Due to the severity of health and safety concerns...]]
