[[sound of Ronald Reagan's voice]]

[>>Here is Ronald Reagan.]

[[Ronald Reagan] How many of you out there have thought or even said,]

["What a wonderful book my life would make if I could only write it."]

[[Narrator] Along with his role as host of GE Theater, ]

[Ronald Reagan and his family helped spread the company's message.]

[[Ronald Reagan] Well, that's part of living better electrically. ]

[[Narrator] He also played an off-screen role as GE's corporate ambassador. ]

[[Ronald Reagan] Those GE tours became almost a post-graduate course ]

[in political science for me. ]

[[Fred Ryan] Welcome to the Reagan Library. Jeff, special guests, thank you for joining us. ]

[We're delighted to dedicate this very important gallery here at the Reagan Library, ]

[and we think for anybody visiting, this is an essential stop because]

[people seem to think Ronald Reagan just became President,]

[and they don't realize that there were many years of experience ]

[that prepared him for that job. ]

[And right in the center of that, as Ronald Reagan described, were his years with GE. ]

[He described it as his graduate course in political science. ]

[But it taught him about the value of a job]

[and the pride that an employee has when they work for a great institution]

[and the issues that were on the minds of ordinary people. ]

[So we're very pleased to be able to have as central point of the library]

[this gallery which talks about the transition and creation of the Great Communicator. ]

[And it would not be possible without the support of GE,]

[both for this gallery, as presenting sponsor of the centennial, ]

[as the creator of The GE Reagan Foundation Scholars, which will bring]

[for the next 20 years young people who share Ronald Reagan's vision]

[and GE's vision for America and will support their educations and, particularly, ]

[all of the support that you've given to let America and the world know]

[that Ronald Reagan turns 100. ]

[We could not be more grateful. [Jeffrey Immelt] Great, Fred. Thanks very much. Thank you. ]

[[applause]]

[As Fred said, President Reagan was our roving ambassador from 1954 to 1962. ]

[He would do town hall meetings that in many ways captured the speech]

[that became so famous in 1964; there were bits and pieces of it that he would do]

[with our employees about personal freedom, entrepreneurship, ]

[the role of private enterprise, and that's been a significant part of the history of GE. ]

[And it was a natural--on the 100th celebration--that GE be ]

[the presenting sponsor and dedicate ourselves to the scholarships]

[because of the great memories. ]

[So, Fred, it's a great honor for the company, and on their behalf--on behalf of]

[all of our employees, to be associated with the centennial of President Reagan]

[and to have this as a living legacy to his communication--]

[we think a little bit of which was developed on the factory floors of our great company, ]

[and so we're honored to be here today. ]
