[[Bob Gilligan] Hi, my name is Bob Gilligan.]
[I'm vice president of transmission and distribution for GE's energy business.]
[I met with the House Committee on Energy today]
[and discussed the needs of our transmission and distribution infrastructure.]
[We have an aging infrastructure, ]
[and we have more demands being placed on that infrastructure every day.]
[We have a projection that over the next twenty years ]
[the demand for electricity will increase by 30%, ]
[putting more stress on this aging infrastructure.]
[We have a desire to bring more renewable power into the grid]
[so that we have a greener energy infrastructure, ]
[and that'll add complexity to the grid.]
[And our consumers want more information and more choice about ]
[how they pay for their energy and how they reduce their energy costs.]
[Our message to the committee was very simple:]
[we have the technology today to enable more efficient delivery, ]
[to enable more penetration of renewables--]
[both wind turbines and distributed solar--]
[and to inform and enable consumers to make better decisions about their energy use, ]
[lowering their energy bills.]
[Our message was we need to use the stimulus money]
[to accelorate deployment of this technology and demonstrate its benefits.]
[We think that this is a great opportunity for us to progress this technology, ]
[demonstrate its benefits, and ensure that we're preparing our energy infrastructure]
