[[♪ music ♪][revving engine]]

[Pretty sweet machine, right?]

[Yeah, but I'm looking for a little bit longer-term relationship. ]

[Come here, I'll show you what I mean. ]

[Now this is what I'm talking about. ]

[This marvel of engineering is the GE90 jet engine]

[made by GE Aviation. ]

[Not only is it beautiful--don't]

[tell my car I just said that--but it's extremely durable]

[and reliable.]

[How durable? Imagine this. ]

[The jet engine that took me to my college spring break in Florida could be the very same]

[engines that take me to my 30-year high school reunion. ]

[I couldn't say the same thing about my car. ]

[In fact, when you start comparing the lifespan]

[and maintenance requirements of a jet engine to an automobile, ]

[you start to discover some pretty amazing stats. ]

[[12,000 miles/year] The average car travels about 12,000 miles in a year.]

[[2,000,000 miles/year] The average GE90 travels over 2,000,000 miles in a year.]

[[Life span:-12 years] You'd be lucky to get 12 years or 200,000]

[miles out of a car before it outlives its useful life. ]

[[Life span: 30+ years] The typical lifespan of a jet engine is over 30 years.]

[That's longer than I've been on this planet. ]

[These engines can power an aircraft halfway]

[around the world without having to be refueled. ]

[I'd be lucky if I could get halfway across the state without having to put gas in this. ]

[You know how you have to get the oil and filter changed in your car]

[every 3 months or so?]

[Well, this aircraft engine can go 2 years or more before it changes its oil filter. ]

[And you know how you have to take you car into the shop every 50,000 miles or so]

[for brake pads or a timing belt?]

[The average GE90 can go 8 million miles]

[before major scheduled service visits. ]

[8 million miles. ]

[And this GE90 jet engine isn't taking it easy in the slow lane either. ]

[These engines propel aircraft close]

[to 600 miles per hour. ]

[That's six times faster than my car out there. ]

[And when the GE90 revs up to full thrust, ]

[it's got record breaking power, literally. ]

[The Guinness Book of World Records recognizes it as]

[the world's most powerful jet engine]

[reaching 127,900 pounds of thrust.]

[Eat that dust. ]

[All cars come with a check engine light, but GE's]

[aircraft engines come with GE's remote diagnostics]

[providing constant monitoring of the engine in flight, trending data analysis]

[to help predict engine performance, and can identify potential]

[maintenance requirements before they can cause a plane to be grounded. ]

[The GEnx, GE's latest commercial ]

[engine, is designed to be even more durable, ]

[built with composite fiber materials, new metal alloys,]

[and high-temperature coating to increase]

[time between shop visits. ]

[The GEnx is going to be around a long time. ]

[Long after this beauty is in the scrap yard. ]

[[honk] Sorry, baby. Didn't mean for you to hear that. ]
