[Where the jobs are. GE imagination at work.]

[Ann Larmore: Previously I worked for an automotive supplier that was going through]

[bankruptcy. And a week after I lost my job, I got a call from GE. And I was really excited, ]

[because what an opportunity to go from a bankrupt automotive supplier]

[to going to one of the most well-respected companies on Earth and to work on]

[a new, exciting program that is avionics and is global. ]

[Steve Wright: C919 is a new transport aircraft, and it's made in China. ]

[As a project manager, my job is to lead and direct the team--to be focused on]

[the big picture but also be able to direct and delineate the lower-level activity]

[so that we can execute. ]

[Sushila Srinivasan: I joined GE in Grand Rapids in May of 2010, and I am working on the]

[head-up guidance system and enhanced vision system for C919. ]

[Physically, nothing exists, so we are actually building a foundation. ]

[We are fundamentally designing and writing each requirement and what it takes ]

[to reach that task. ]

[Mike Figard: I lead the team in the United States of designing the flight deck displays ]

[and the controls for flight crew. What it allowed me to do is take my airline and]

[pilot experience and mix it with the engineering experience I've had. ]

[So it really allowed me to work in both areas--both the love of flying and then the]

[technical challenges that the engineering brings about. ]

[AL: I felt a sense of renewal. It was great to have an opportunity to learn]

[new things and meet new people and to explore.]

[And I felt like there was a lot of opportunity to grow here. ]

[SW: This is really the next big thing for GE Aviation Systems here in Grand Rapids. ]

[MF: New aircraft don't come along very often. ]

[AL: The C919 program is a global program. We have people in the UK, different areas of]

[the US, China--all working together to create a product. ]

[I like the fact that it is a new project because that means that there is]

[more opportunity to invent and create. ]

[MF: And so, really, we are on the cutting edge for GE in terms of building our product line]

[and the technologies involved. ]

[SS: Working on the new airplane as the technology is changing, it brings up a lot of]

[new issues, and as we look at each system, we need to look at what we are]

[designing for today and also how we can design in such a way that]

[we can improve it for the future. ]

[Jeff VanDorp: I think it's a great opportunity to be involved in something new like this]

[with--you know--China's first real commercial airplane. ]

[MF: At this point, we are taking a flight deck, in terms of displays and controls, and ]

[trying to decide "What is the new?" What is the new technology? ]

[What is the new look to the flight deck? And we've got a clean sheet of paper. ]

[A lot of new technologies going in, a lot of product development, a lot of work into]

[making this something GE can be proud of and build upon. ]
