[[The National Breast Cancer Screening Program | Riyadh]]

[Four years ago, I was diagnosed with breast cancer,]

[I felt it was a letter of love from God almighty.]

[I decided to take active steps and recover from the disease.]

[It was in 2006,]

[and in 2011,]

[I finished the 5 years,]

[which we call medically]

[this is a survivor. ]

[Now you are a survivor.]

[Although to me,]

[my own belief is that I'm a survivor from day one.]

[From the moment I was diagnosed with breast cancer,]

[I decided to take active steps to address and recover from the disease.]

[This helped me get cured, thank God.]

[The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is not isolated]

[from the rest of the world when it comes to breast cancer.]

[Breast cancer is the most common disease amongst women in Saudi Arabia.]

[This cancer is seen by some as a taboo,]

[and we need to work hard and more on that.]

[[85% of women diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history of the disease]]

[Today, March 31, 2012,]

[the Ministry of Health is launching]

[phase 1 of the National Breast Cancer Screening in Riyadh.]

[The awareness program will be highlighted]

[ in newspapers, magazines, media channels,]

[and social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.]

[The goal of the program is to educate all women]

[ on the importance of early detection.]

[We are doing this in partnership with General Electric]

[ and their Healthymagination initiative. ]

[If you are in Riyadh, you can call the Ministry of Health's toll-free number at ]

[(800) 249-4444]

[to book an appointment at one of 3 mobile clinics]

[ stationed at various public healthcare centers around the city]

[provided by the Ministry of Health and General Electric.]

[The mobile clinics are equipped with a team of doctors ]

[specialized in screening and diagnosing breast cancer.]

[Early detection means preventing the disease from happening. ]

[Breast cancer may be prevented with early detection,]

[[Saudi women are not screened early. Because of this, 70% of women affected with the disease are diagnosed at a later stage,]]

[[reducing their survival, rate in comparison to other countries where breast cancer is detected at earlier stages.]]

[and if caught at an early stage, ]

[treatment may be easier, ]

[and survival rates may be higher.]

[[30% of breast cancer cases in Saudi Arabia occur in women under the age of 40]]

[[compared with 5% in the US]]

[Be optimistic and strong for yourself and your family.]

[Health is the most precious thing we have. ]

[Screen yourself and spread awareness on the importance of ]

[breast cancer prevention to enjoy a healthier life with your family.]
