[[Jeanie Gentry - Vice President Allied Health Services]]

[It was not an easy process to come to the decision to have a fixed MRI ]

[in a small, critical access hospital.]

[We thought that we could not afford this.]

[This was more than just a numbers question for us.]

[[William Davis Patten Jr - Chief Executive Officer]]

[We were wanting to say, "What is it that our community needs, ]

[and how can we provide it, even if it's a break even project?"]

[[David Broderick - Director of Radiology]]

[In making the decision as to which vendor to purchase from, ]

[the reputation of GE is a big factor.]

[[Jeanie Gentry] We decided for the financing of this equipment]

[to finance it through GE as a long-term lease.]

[[William Davis Patten, Jr.] When community members began to]

[hear that we were even thinking about it, there was a lot of excitement.]

[One of the comments I heard over and over was, "It's about time!"]

[[Jeanie Gentry] Getting an MRI in Libby, Montana is a big deal to the community.]

[So there were pictures in the paper the day that the trailer got here, ]

[and a lot of rejoicing and hoopla about that.]

[[David Broderick] We were off to the races.]

[We were scanning, we were accepting patients, ]

[and it was a smoothly humming machine.]

[[William Davis Patten, Jr.] We thought that we had this project nailed down pretty good.]

[And I'm happy to say that our estimates were way off.]

[We under estimated the demand significantly.]

[We thought by the end of the first year ]

[we would be doing good if we were averaging 20 scans a month.]

[In the last 3 to 4 months, we have been averaging 50 to 60 scans per month.]

[So the volumes that we're seeing have been dramatically beyond ]

[what we ever thought they would be.]

[As far as satisfaction with patients, patients love the fact that they don't have to drive.]

[The closest MRI is 90 miles away; this is huge for them.]

[[Jeanie Gentry] You can make a difference in your community by getting MRI for people,]

[and it can be done; if it can be done in Libby Montana, you can do it anywhere.]
