[[International Medical Corps Country Director for Chad,]]

[[Dayan Woldemichael, discusses the impact of the equipment.]]

[This hospital usually deals with complicated cases]

[that could not be treated in primary healthcare centers. ]

[The importance of the equipment is two fold. ]

[The first, and most important, is]

[the staff will make a proper diagnosis. ]

[The staff is usually trained to make]

[diagnostic impressions. ]

[They know the clinical history]

[and the physical examination, ]

[but without this equipment it would be like making]

[a very scientific guess. ]

[But with this equipment you can do the ultrasound ]

[and you can do the x-rays]

[and then you have a very clear diagnosis. ]

[And the details let]

[the medical team plan proper intervention. ]

[And the second importance is the fact that ]

[you can start treating the patient]

[and you can follow up with the prognosis]

[using these machines. ]

[For example, if the patient has a fracture, ]

[and he is put on traction, ]

[you can do an x-ray after 4 weeks and follow up]

[with how the bone is healing. ]

[On top of that, ]

[if this facility was not here in A'beche]

[the next available response would be to ]

[transport the patient from A'beche to N'Djamena]

[and in that way it is further helping]

[cut a lot of costs for the transfer]

[and a lot of hardships for the patient. ]
