[and your commitment and your oath is to always do good.]
[And you want to do that but you can't because you just have an inadequate facility.]
[And that is where we're hands-on.]
[We're rolling up our sleeves and we're taking the resources that we have]
[to make an impact in the world.]
[My name is Janeen Uzzell, and I'm a Director of Operations in New York City]
[So here we are in Ghana at Apam Hospital.]
[It's very easy to deliver equipment.]
[Then there's the question of what will we do with it.]
[And that is where GE has taken its best practices as a business ]
[What we've done is we've taken each of the sites where we've made equipment donations]
[and we've set up what we call core teams.]
[We've determined what information do we need to know from each of these hospitals]
[based on the equipment that we've delivered that can help us sustain them.]
[And we've put together metric studies, ]
[we've donated new mattresses for the beds.]
[Sometimes what they need are more people]
[to manage the queue of people who need assistance.]
[The impact of GE in Apam is indescribable. ]
[To provide a generator to a community]
[that was experiencing more than a half a dozen power outages a day,]
[the nurse taking pulse with their fingers now have very basic healthcare equipment,]
[like a monitor, clean water in a village where we're right here at the sea]
[and clean water is a major issue.]
[Being able to take x-rays and have baby monitors and provide ultrasound equipment]
[and services, not just for women who are pregnant]
[but for the women who may have diseases or sicknesses.]
[The hospitals have grown. The staff has been encouraged.]
[It was told to us, we can do this, we can deliver this equipment,]
[but we will not simply drop off equipment and leave.]
[We're not just about our bottom line.]
[That is important. We are a business. ]
[But we're a good company, and we're making a difference.]
[I've lived in Apam and I've done a short-term assignment here.]
[You can smell the salt water.]
[A beautiful land on the sea.]
[The people here are so welcoming.]
[I'm very connected to the people here.]
[I never knew Apam existed on the map, and now I can't imagine my life without Apam.]
