[[narrator] In 2004, GE Citizenship set out to improve healthcare in rural Africa]
[by donating $20 million worth of products and committing to 5 years of sustained support.]
[Today that program is called Developing Health Globally]
[and has spread to 14 countries and some 90 facilities]
[ranging from Asia to Latin America.]
[[Augusto Medina - Sales Manager, Energy Services, Latin America] People are very]
[excited that a company of this magnitude like GE put their eyes on this little town]
[in the middle of nowhere for them, and this has been like a blessing for them.]
[[narrator] Global efforts have ramped up to $40 million and an ongoing commitment.]
[The program has not only revolutionized the delivery of healthcare to those most in need]
[but also the way a multinational corporation engages developing countries.]
[Working as a team, we provide not only healthcare equipment]
[[Don Hatlestad - GE Healthcare]]
[but a total GE Healthcare solution across all of the GE businesses.]
[[Jesus Efrain Gavarte - Gracias Lempira Hospital, Honduras] [through interpreter]]
[The training that they have given we wouldn't have received any other way.]
[It is an unprecedented help to this hospital.]
[[narrator] GE not only provides hospitals with the most basic needs,]
[like x-ray machines and incubators,]
[but also a stable and supportive infrastructure]
[including water filtration and power generators.]
[[Jeremiah Tiimob - Hospital Administrator, Ghana] The power generator is a big relief to us.]
[We can carry out emergency surgeries at any time without any worry about power outage.]
[[narrator] Unlike a traditional philanthropic model,]
[where grants are bestowed and supplies are simply dropped off,]
[GE's program is a sustained effort with on the ground personnel and support.]
[[Janeen Uzzell - Director of Operations, GE Healthcare] What we've done]
[is we've taken each of the sites where we've made equipment donations]
[and we've set up what we call core teams.]
[We've determined what information do we need to know from each of these hospitals]
[that can help us sustain them.]
[[narrator] The program directly impacts nearly five million people,]
[and with 23 more facilities coming online in Cambodia,]
[And while the numbers are impressive, this program is about something more.]
[It's about recognition, the recognition of human life ]
[and what can be done to ensure its well-being.]
[Whether it is a child in Africa or a man working rice fields in Asia,]
[And with the efforts of GE Citizenship, it's clear that GE is leading the way]
