[The Alliance is a HRSA fronted health center controlled network.]

[[Fred Rachman - MD Chief Executive Officer]]

[It's really designed to help support the ability of the individual community health centers]

[to provide quality healthcare to the communities they serve.]

[Our mission is really about improving access to care,]

[improving the quality of the care we provide,]

[and also improving the efficiency and economy in the way we provide those services.]

[[Andrew Hamilton - COO & Director of Clinic Informatics]]

[Health information technology, specifically electronic health records systems,]

[have helped the Alliance achieve its aims.]

[One way we've used the EHR is to provide immediate access to data,]

[both at the point of care for clinicians as well as at the practice level]

[to better understand variations in care ]

[and then at the community level to begin to analyze the health disparities we're seeing]

[in our environment.]

[It really takes a lot to really get the best benefit out of health information technology,]

[which is why the health centers work together through the Alliance infrastructure]

[to implement the EMR.]

[We chose GE's Centricity Electronic Medical Record for two reasons.]

[One, because it allowed our organization to design the clinical screens]

[used by our practitioners at the point of care]

[in such a way that we could provide evidence-based practice guidelines]

[against actionable measures.]

[The second is that it allowed us to capture structured data]

[that we could then aggregate and look at trends in care for our population]

[of the community in which we serve.]

[I think one of the tools that technology, the Centricity,]

[[Timothy Long - MD Chief Clinical Officer] has helped me with as a primary care provider]

[is decision support in the exam room.]

[We have national guidelines within Centricity]

[that point or alert me to what medications the patient should be on]

[and also what lab tests I should be ordering for this visit.]

[The chart is always accessible.]

[In the past, we've had to look for the chart.]

[Sometimes we had to spend time waiting for the chart for a walk-in patient.]

[Now that issue is completely resolved.]

[We have constantly up-to-date medication lists and problem lists.]

[As a Joint Commission accredited site, ]

[Near North always strives to provide the highest quality care.]

[As a community health center, we've used Centricity Electronic Medical Record system]

[to achieve cost savings administratively,]

[which we've redirected to patient care activities.]

[Implementation of the EMR is really only the beginning.]

[It's through ongoing use that we really get insights on how to really leverage the technology]

[to achieve our aims.]

[We're continuing to partner with GE in applying those insights]

[into ways that the application is continuously improved as we go forward.]
