[[Ulysses Kilgore, President & CEO Befored Stuyvesant Family Heath Center]]

[I'm Ulysses Kilgore.]

[I'm the CEO of the Bed-Sty Family Health Center. ]

[I've been here in this position for 27 years.]

[To say I feel great would be an understatement]

[about our receiving the ]

[GE Foundation grant money. ]

[[♪ soft music ♪]]

[Because it's going to move us further along the road]

[toward achieving some of our prevention goals. ]

[We definitely will be able to ]

[hone our message to the patients we serve, ]

[to the community, what have you. ]

[I am confindent that we are going to be able to have more impact--]

[greater impact--on the health status of the Bed-Sty ]

[central Brooklyn community. ]

[[♪ soft music ♪]]

[The thing is, we are our brother's keeper]

[and sister's keeper, and so we have to make sure that we take care]

[of everyone who comes to our doors.]

[People don't come to a health clinic because they]

[don't have anything else to do. ]

[They come because they have a condition that needs to be treated. ]

[They don't come to a heath center to hang out. ]

[They don't come here for recreation. ]

[They could go and sit in the park.]

[They come here because they have something that needs to be cared for and treated. ]

[How were my pressures? >>Your pressure was good. ]

[[[Ngozi Oji, M.D.] This clinic has been here for more than 25 years. ]

[It's started as a small clinic in an apartment]

[across the street and it grew into]

[this big clinic that ]

[we're in now today. ]

[The clinic has a active patient population of more than 15,000.]

[We have a good population of patients ]

[who are uninsured. ]

[We don't take that into account, whether you have insurance]

[or no insurance. ]

[Irrespective of your ability to pay, we provide care here. ]

[If you've ever had a health problem, ]

[then you know how sad people can be,]

[especially if you don't have anyone to turn to or if you ]

[don't know what to do. ]

[So I enjoy this because I am able to interact with ]

[people even when they are healthy.]

[If they are healthy then you tell them what to do to ]

[prevent getting sick, which is]

[what healthcare is all about now. ]

[We're driving prevention. ]

[You don't want people to get sick before you help them. ]

[You want them not to get sick. ]

[So I enjoy--I don't know what other job]

[I could have done because I just love doing it,]

[and especially doing it in this community. ]
