[[Vivek Kemp - GE Reporter at Large/Multimedia Producer] It's day six of our road trip.]
[We're in Ransom, Illinois; we're just about to climb a wind turbine.]
[Each one of these wind turbines is enough to power 500 homes a year.]
[This tower behind us is about 280 feet.]
[And one of the most important lessons you need to know ]
[when you're climbing one of these big boys, always where a hard hat.]
[[loud blowing noise] We're in the tube of the tower, we're just about to climb up it.]
[I'm about to make it. [voice is drowned out by loud blowing noise]]
[[sound of footsteps on ladder]]
[We are in the third stage of the tower.]
[I didn't expect it to be this hard.]
[I'm sweating, it's hot, I'm tired, my forearms hurt.]
[But there's promise of a great view and water at the top, so I have to go! [laughs]]
[We've made it to the top of the wind turbine.]
[We're in the section called the "nocelle" which is that square or rectangular section]
[when you're looking at it from the outside.]
[I'm not sure if you can hear it, but the wind is blowing very fast.]
[We've been told that it's blowing at 14 meters per second.]
[It looks like a sunny day, though, and I'm looking forward to getting outside ]
[and seeing the power of the wind.]
[All right, we made it to the top.]
[We're sitting on top of the nocelle;]
[that's that square structure I was just telling you about. ]
[I wish you could see what I'm seeing now.]
[It is absolutely gorgeous! [sound of wind blowing]]
[The wind is blowing at approximately 30 to 35 miles an hour.]
[It's amazing that this invisible substance will power something.]
[I want to thank everybody at Top Crop and our GE crew for bringing us up here.]
[It's quite an experience and one we will never forget.]
