[My name is Peter Landschutz.]

[ [♫ Easy listening guitar ♪]]

[My job is the program manager]

[for the Ultrascan Duo Tool, an ecomagination product. ]

[We are here in Stutensee, Germany at the GE facility.]

[I've now got to put on my safety glasses.]

[The Ultrascan Duo Tool is the latest in technology for finding cracks]

[and metal loss in the pipelines.]

[These defects can present problems.]

[Ultrascan Duo Tool is going in these lines,]

[collecting data, and providing information to correct these problems]

[before something like that should occur.]

[I'm David Allen. I'm the site leader here in Stutensee, Germany,]

[and I'm also the product line leader]

[for the crack detection products that we develop]

[and build and service from this location.]

[I'm Jochen Sturm. I'm working for PII Pipetronics.]

[My name is Uwe Fix. My job title is Senior Inspection Supervisor]

[and also Crew Chief for the Duo Tool.]

[This big machine, it's a Duo Tool.]

[It's called in this way because it can do two things]

[nearly to the same time.]

[We can look for corrosion,]

[and we can also look for cracks during one run]

[with special sensors inside, with the Phased Array]

[which can be programmed.]

[The Phased Array Technology allows us to]

[create a much tighter form of sensors]

[in a very small space which allows us to have a much higher resolution,]

[and we can set the tools specifically for each pipeline condition.]

[It's a unique tool, and it`s the first time they put Phased Array Technology]

[out from the medical in such a kind of environment. ]

[I think a lot of people are familiar with the ultrasound technology.]

[When they go in for the 20-week ultrasound test,]

[they're using the GE ultrasonics Phased Array Technology there,]

[just like we are for our Ultrascan Duo Tool.]

[Brigitta, my wife, she's a gynecologist,]

[and with the same tools of GE, she has a look on cancer.]

[She has also to look for babies in pregnant women. ]

[I'm looking for cracks in pipelines. That's interesting as well.]

[I guess she likes it more to look for babies]

[than looking for cracks and metal loss.]

[Well, the guys are now ready--]

[join me to have a look on what they are doing there.]

[The pipeline operators are operating their pipelines]

[in environmentally sensitive areas. ]

[They're also seeing the population densities around these pipelines increasing.]

[They want to know the depth to the best accuracy we can estimate,]

[and they also want to know what the crack profile looks like. ]

[Accuracy of the tool allows us to deliver the information they need.]

[I feel very strongly about what we do here.]

[We're helping customers manage their pipelines.]

[Preventing disasters--from that standpoint,]

[I think it's very important what we're doing.]

[Our inspection tools are called pigs, yeah? Normally, we call them pigs]

[Because we've got pigs. Here are ]

[some chickens on the site, just to--]

[It's silly to talk about chickens, yeah?]

[ [men's laughter]]

[No, it-- I thought about it as an introduction, yeah?]

[Because not everyone knows about pigs, yeah?]

[[ people laughing ]]

[That is coming from the Romans, because the Romans used pigs--]

[the skin of pigs--to clean their ]

[water pipe facilities.]

[And that's why we call them today]

[--thousands of years later--pigs as well.]
