[[and generated $70 billion in sales of ecomagination products.]]
[[Narrator] GE's focus with the ecomagination program]
[really looks at the environment that we're living in today.]

[The ecomagination program launched back in 2005.]
[It was a program started to really]
[allow GE to focus on helping]
[to solve some of our customer's most challenging environmental issues. ]
[Also, focusing internally on how]
[we as a corporation and we as a company]
[can reduce the impact that we we're having on the environment.]
[[Steve Fludder, V.P. of ecomagination] When we've been this successful with ecomagination, ]
[and we think about how to take this forward,]
[We're going to double everything that we've done in the first phase of eco]
[We've invested $ 5 billion dollars in innovation and research and development]
[of these solutions in the first phase.]
[We're going to invest $10 billion in the next phase. ]
[[Two products that show how investment in ecomagination can return a profit]]
[[are the Evolution Locomotive and the GEnx Aircraft engine.]]
[[GE Transportation Systems Dedicated to Customer Success]]
[[P.L.] With the Evolution series, not only are we able to lower emissions by over]
[40 percent, but we are also able to ]
[improve fuel efficiency by 5 percent. ]
[In 2010 we've delivered over 3700 Evolution Series]
[locomotives to rail customers around the world. ]
[[and make GE's own operations twice as energy efficient as they were from the outset.]]

[I'm the General Manager of the GE GEnx Program located here in Evandale, Ohio.]
[GEnx is a next-generation technology engine.]
[The airlines desperately are looking for a better engine.]
[They want an airplane system with an engine that's going to deliver]
[economics at a noise that's about]
[half the noise that we have on the 767 today.]
[And with emissions, 15 percent lower.]
[In total, we have generated sales to 46 customers]
[for a total of over 1300 engines. ]
[We have invested over $400,000,000 dollars]
[over the last 8 years in bringing]
[the Evolution Series to market, and also having a ]
[positive impact on the environment. ]
[[T.B.]Often products that use less fuel or allow saltwater to be ]
[transferred into drinking water or the other]
[90 products that GE is developing with ecomagination,]
[those are what's really important.]
[I think the work that we're doing today is]
[really setting a tone for future generations.]
[I know that it's something that I've become ]
[much more conscious of, and I'm trying to ]
[pass that on to my children so they will be ]
[cognizant of the impact that they can have]
[on the planet going forward.]
[Time will tell what exciting new ecomagination]
[products that will be delivered in the future.]
[The reason why this is important, it's really important to us as a company,]
[it's important to our shareholders, it's important]
[to our employees, it's important to our customers, ]
[and quite frankly it's important to society at large because ]
[transform the entire infrastructure that supports our way of life. ]
