In GE's Human Resources Leadership Program people are gaining real-world business experience, contributing to GE businesses and getting in line for HR leadership roles across the company.

[[narrator] Diane Vavrasek spent eight months in Budapest.]

[I was really able to help bridge the communication gap]

[between the senior level leadership and the employees in Hungary]

[so they better understand why we were doing certain processes.]

[[narrator] Will Pearson became an HR manager just as the economy was tanking.]

[I got experience to support a group for the first time as a generalist in tough economic times.]

[[narrator] Sarah Condella worked as a lean manufacturing leader ]

[on the floor in a union plant.]

[It taught me a lot about how to get inside the hearts and minds of people]

[and understand from their perspective what we might be proposing.]

[[narrator] Margie Zyble supported a call center population.]

[It made me less afraid to take risks.]

[I did things on program that I wouldn't have necessarily done,]

[and then that gave me the freedom to take bigger risks once I graduated program.]

[[narrator] And Johnathan Lee has been driving recruitment and staffing of engineers]

[for GE Appliances Technology.]

[We need to bring in a lot of new technical talent into the business,]

[and I'm having a direct impact on that.]

[[narrator] As part of GE's Human Resources Leadership Program,]

[these young people are gaining real-world business experience,]

[contributing to GE businesses, and getting in line for HR leadership roles ]

[across the company.]

[The GE HRLP program is a two-year program]

[[HRLP - Diane - GE Energy] ]

[consisting of three eight-month rotations.]

[[narrator] The benefits are far-reaching.]

[[Diane] The program means to me the opportunity to grow professionally ]

[and personally in ways that I couldn't have imagined.]

[You're definitely involved in decision making,]

[[HRLP - Will - GE Capital]]

[involved directly with the employees as well as the leadership,]

[and involved more in strategy than other companies.]

[The senior VP of HR in my business,]

[[HRLP - Jonathan - 1st Rotation]]

[he knows my name, he knows the work that I'm doing.]

[HRLP is great for giving you global exposure. [HRLP - Sarah - GE Healthcare]]

[Every six months, there is a global conference.]

[You get a chance to interact with people all over the world]

[[HRLP - Margie - GE Energy] ]

[that have very different perspectives.]

[[narrator] And what can you expect to get out of HRLP?]

[[Will] You're going to build a wonderful network,]

[you're going to really understand the different challenges facing each GE business.]

[[Jonathan] You really get a wide variety of experiences in a very short amount of time.]

[There's so much opportunity at GE.]

[I definitely feel like there is a focus on development.]

[You will be out of your comfort zone at times,]

[and you have to learn to be comfortable with that.]

[You look back in six months, you keep in touch with the people you met]

[and the relationships, and you start to really understand, "Hey, I did that. I'm proud of that."]

[and if you're really open to trying a lot of new, different things,]
