[[male speaker] What I've been working on is facilities upgrades,]

[enhancing and upgrading some of our systems ]

[to be able to handle additional steam flow or higher temperatures.]

[[female speaker] I'm working on a lot of new technology introduction,]

[new product introduction programs.]

[[♪♪]]

[[female speaker] I'm taking apart aircraft components and wings]

[and trying to investigate new materials for making lighter aircraft.]

[[narrator] These young GE engineers sound like seasoned veterans,]

[but they are actually recent college graduates]

[who are pursuing a bright future through GE's Edison Engineering Development Program.]

[The Edison Program is two years long. [EEDP - Courtney - 4th Rotation]]

[It's four rotations, each lasting six months.]

[[male speaker] My first rotation was in the wind conceptual design team.]

[My first rotation I was predominantly [EEDP - Andrea - 2nd Rotation]]

[working on healthcare programs.]

[You get to try out four different teams [EEDP - Jason - 4th Rotation]]

[four different jobs, and see where you best fit within the company.]

[[Andrea] I'm working on high temperature ceramics for aircraft ]

[and energy turbine applications.]

[[Courtney] I'm on my fourth rotation in the Advanced Technologies organization]

[working with steam conceptual design.]

[It actually gave me a lot of opportunities to learn communication skills,]

[presentation skills.]

[There's really a lot of networking that goes on.]

[[narrator] They're called the Edisons,]

[and when they're not retooling systems or rebuilding turbines,]

[they're undergoing intensive technical training and networking]

[and working globally and getting exposure to top management,]

[giving their careers a jump-start.]

[As soon as people hear that you're an Edison engineer,]

[they give you a higher respect, but they also increase their expectations of you.]

[It gets you a lot of exposure and a lot of additional experience.]

[We're given these opportunities that allow us to really develop]

[into a significant contributor in a shorter period of time.]

[[♪♪] [narrator] Who does GE want for its Edison Engineering Development Program?]

[People like Andrea, Jason, and Courtney,]

[engineering grads with a passion for technology]

[and a drive for technical excellence.]

[A good Edison needs to be very good at working with people.]

[Beyond that, I think you need to have some strong motivation]

[and be open to different ideas.]

[[Andrea] You have to be a self-motivated person to get through the program.]

[There's a lot of work on top of your everyday full-time job,]

[and it's all completely worth it if you make the most of it.]

[[Courtney] This is a big commitment. It's a big opportunity, but it is a big commitment.]

[[narrator] But the payoff is equally big.]

[[Andrea] I was completely blown away by the community of the Edisons,]

[either the ones in your class and the upperclassmen.]

[It's like a family.]

[There's a very strong kind of bond and connection between us,]

[so if we ever need help, we can go to each other.]

[[♪♪] [Courtney] I get up in the morning,]

[and I'm excited to come to work and see what the day is going to hold in store for me.]

[It's a great place to work. It's a great opportunity.]

[[Andrea] It's a great place to be,]

[and it definitely pushes you to excel and do your best.]

[[Jason] I couldn't be more proud to work for GE in the Edison Program.]
