[[Everyone counting] 1-2-3-yeah! [applause]]

[Today we are officially opening our doors to this]

[state-of-the-art IT and R&D facility. ]

[[Charlene Begley, Senior Vice President and CIO, GE, President and CEO, GE Home and Business Solutions.]]

[We announced plans to open this site last June. ]

[Since that time we have been very impressed ]

[by the rich talent pool here in Michigan. ]

[This site will be our largest concentration ]

[of IT professionals anywhere in the world. [applause]]

[Together, we will work at this center to develop]

[advanced solutions for manufacturing challenges. ]

[For example, we're doing this with our Proficy Software Suite.]

[This software really enables businesses]

[to connect their factory floors]

[through their enterprise, through their execution systems, ]

[to deliver real-time data ]

[that enables fast decisions, ]

[efficient operations, and lean operations. ]

[So GE continues to be]

[very dedicated to investment in innovative]

[technologies, and that will be the focus]

[of this Van Buren site. ]

[We believe innovation is the future of GE, the future ]

[of our country, and the future of Michigan. ]

[We get angry, it makes us mad when we hear people say--]

[[John Rice, GE Vice Chairman, President and CEO Technology Infrastructure] ]

[--that you can't compete globally from the United States, ]

[because, in fact, we do it everyday. ]

[We do it from Erie, Pennsylvania where we make locomotives, ]

[we do it from Greenville, South Carolina where we make gas turbines,]

[we do it from Evandale and Lynn where we make]

[aircraft engines,]

[and we're doing it here in Michigan. ]

[We love what we've seen here and we want to go faster.]

[And that's why today we are announcing that we're expanding]

[our effort here, so that with a another]

[220 jobs, we'll be over 1300 jobs in this facility. [applause]]

[With this expanded commitment this is going to give us]

[3500 jobs across the state of Michigan, ]

[so an increase of 50 percent.]

[In Van Buren Township, obviously, Muskegon, Grand Rapids, ]

[and other locations. ]

[We started with information technology]

[and advanced manufacturing technology.]

[Now we're talking about very sophisticated manufacturing jobs. ]

[We're also investing in our Aviation Systems Engineering]

[Center of Excellence in Grand Rapids to develop integrated ]

[avionic systems for commercial aircraft customers globally. ]

[We're dedicating another 35 million dollars in R&D to this ]

[facility, which will protect several]

[hundred jobs there that are working on programs today. ]

[GE Aviation has a long and successful history in Michigan,]

[and we're extremely proud to be taking this next step.]

[[Jennifer Granholm, Governor, Michigan] ]

[General Electric is making the decision to locate jobs in the United States,]

[as John was saying. ]

[I mean, for us that is music to our ears.]

[We just say to General Electric, welcome to Michigan. ]

[May this be the beginning of a long and productive partnership. ]

[>>We've got to bring together, combine, marry, unite--]

[[Carl Levin, Senator, Michigan]]

[--the worlds of innovation, the worlds of technology, ]

[with the world of manufacturing.]

[And I'm very delighted to be here for ]

[this marriage ceremony,]

[where they come together in a way that GE]

[has proven over the decades that it knows better than just about ]

[anybody how to do that. ]

[[Debbie Stabenow, Senator, Michigan] One of the great stories of GE ]

[is that GE has brought back jobs]

[from China to the United States--]

[brought back jobs. [applause]]

[[Sandy Levin, Congressman, Michigan] You have planted the seeds]

[of Michigan's future, and today we see]

[a magnificent sprouting.]

[Congratulations to all of you. [applause]]
