[[Katie Bossart - GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies]]

[[male speaker] You are listening to Jobs in Pods.]

[[male speaker] Welcome to Jobs in Pods, the only podcast where you can hear]

[real employers talk about their jobs and tell you what it's like to work there.]

[I'm your host, Chris Russell.]

[This jobcast will will feature GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies]

[Commercial Leadership Program (CLP).]

[It is a 24-month program designed to develop commercial talent]

[within the GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies business.]

[Qualified candidates can expect a great deal of exposure and job experience]

[from three 8-month rotations within GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies.]

[It includes formal classroom training in GE's state-of-the-art facilities,]

[mentoring from senior leadership and career planning.]

[CLP prepares candidates for a successful career in a sales and marketing role]

[by providing the opportunity to learn about the products, industry, and customers]

[while making valuable contributions to the organization.]

[Joining us today to discuss the role is Sensing & Inspection Technologies ]

[CLP program member Katie Bossart.]

[Katie, welcome to Jobs in Pods. >>[Bossart] Hi, Chris. Thank you.]

[[Russell] So tell us, Katie, why did you choose to work at GE?]

[[Bossart] Well, Chris, I chose GE because of the company's strong reputation.]

[GE is known for their reputable leadership programs]

[and commitment to developing people.]

[My degree is in mechanical engineering,]

[and I didn't want to go into a traditional engineering role;]

[I wanted to explore the commercial opportunities]

[but yet still utilize that technical background.]

[So I discovered the Commercial Leadership Program at my college career fair,]

[and I knew just then that it would be a great fit.]

[[Russell] By the way, is this your first job out of college?]

[[Bossart] Yes, it is. I'm actually in my first rotation.]

[I've only been with the company for about seven months.]

[[Russell] How would you describe a typical day of the CLP? What is that like?]

[[Bossart] The CLP program in itself is not new to GE, but it's new to Sensing & Inspection.]

[So a CLP in our business will hold various roles in the three 8-month rotations.]

[The three rotations may be in sales operations, marketing, inside sales,]

[customer care, applications engineering, and outside sales.]

[My current rotation, my first rotation, is in product marketing.]

[[Russell] Can you talk about the training you receive? ]

[I know it's pretty legendary there at GE. What is that like?]

[[Bossart] [chuckles] Yes, it is, Chris.]

[As a CLP, obviously there is formal training,]

[and some of those classes are Selling at GE, Marketing at GE,]

[and of course, Lean Six Sigma, but aside from that,]

[there is also training on our products and services that my business offers,]

[and then the everyday, continuous learning that you gain through just the projects]

[and assignments you're working on.]

[[Russell] Katie, what are the things that you really like about your job?]

[[Bossart] Being a CLP here at Sensing & Inspection I feel is very rewarding.]

[I'm given a great deal of responsibility.]

[I feel that my job is truly helping the business and that I'm making an impact.]

[And also I'm located at our headquarters here in Boston,]

[so I'm given the opportunity to interact with our business leaders on a daily basis.]

[And not everyone has that opportunity, so I'm grateful for that.]

[[Russell] How would you describe the people you work with there at GE?]

[[Bossart] Everyone here is great to work with.]

[The people are intelligent, they're hardworking, very motivated]

[but yet fun, and so I'm grateful for the strong relationships that I've built]

[in my short time here.]

[[Russell] How do you think the CLP challenges you?]

[[Bossart] The program sets very high expectations for everyone]

[and especially for everyone to deliver results.]

[So all CLPs are considered an integral part of the team,]

[and I'm challenged with each assignment that I'm given for my rotations,]

[and I'm given the opportunity to demonstrate my leadership skills every day]

[throughout the two years.]

[[Russell] Okay, last question for you, Katie:]

[As far as current development goes, how do you think the CLP will help in that progression?]

[[Bossart] The CLP is a 2-year program, and so I have those three rotations,]

[and I feel that those rotations will really give me insight ]

[into the different commercial functions that are available.]

[I'll be able to learn the business better]

[and ultimately, at the end of the program, it will help me identify my strong skills]

[and then provide me career direction.]

[[Russell] Well, that will do it for this edition of Jobs in Pods. ]

[Katie, thank you very much for your time today. >>[Bossart] Thank you very much, Chris.]
