[[♪upbeat music♪] [Commercial Leadership Program (CLP)]]
[[Eric Wong - GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms]]
[[C. Russell] You are listening to Jobs in Pods.]
[[P. Clayton] Welcome to Jobs in Pods, the only podcast where you can hear real employers]
[talk about their jobs and tell you what it's like to work there.]
[I'm your host, Peter Clayton.]
[This jobcast will feature GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms']
[Commercial Leadership Program, CLP.]
[It's a 24-month program designed to develop commercial talent]
[within the GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms business,]
[which includes automation, embedded systems, and CNC.]
[Qualified candidates can expect to get a great deal of exposure and job experience ]
[from the three to four rotations within GE Fanuc.]
[It includes formal classroom training in GE's state-of-the-art facilities,]
[mentoring from senior leadership, and career planning ]
[during the two years leading to a full-fledged commercial role.]
[Joining us today to discuss the role is GE Fanuc CLP program member Eric Wong.]
[Eric, welcome to Jobs in Pods. >>[Wong] Thank you for having me.]
[[Clayton] So this sounds like a very exciting program.]
[Tell us why you decided to choose to go with GE.]
[[Wong] Well, GE is a great company to work for.]
[The Commercial Leadership Program was actually very appealing to me.]
[It was really a great opportunity to experience the various functions]
[So with an engineering background, I was actually very excited ]
[to bring those certain traits to a commercial role,]
[which I've actually never had the opportunity to experience before.]
[[Clayton] Eric, can you describe a typical day as a CLP?]
[[Wong] CLPs at GE Fanuc actually hold various roles,]
[anywhere from inside sales, marketing, channel management]
[So on any given day, a CLP really needs to be able to shift the gears]
[and accommodate different obstacles that may arise.]
[I think as a CLP you really learn to prioritize and manage your time wisely]
[while looking at how you can overall impact the business.]
[[Clayton] Can you describe for us some of the projects you've been able to work on?]
[[Wong] Sure. I've actually been given the opportunity to work on various projects]
[and really lead some of them to help increase the productivity with the sales force.]
[With so many different sales tools and processes we have available,]
[we are really able to look at the overall picture ]
[and truly optimize the efficiency of the sales team.]
[So we can really increase essentially more time in front of the customers.]
[[Clayton] What kind of training do you receive?]
[[Wong] There's actually a core curriculum for CLPs that each member must complete.]
[This includes Lean Six Sigma training, Negotiations, Marketing and Selling at GE,]
[but there are also other courses available to CLPs at a business level]
[to further help develop each member.]
[Some examples could be Facilitation at GE, Support Central Boot Camp]
[and various product courses.]
[Our program managers are also very supportive of program members]
[to initiate course requests that may help us with our development.]
[[Clayton] What are some of the things you like about your job, Eric?]
[[Wong] Whether it's implementing a process tool to the sales team,]
[meeting with customers, or even raising funds for GE Volunteer events or things like that,]
[I really enjoy having the opportunity to work with different functions, ]
[different groups of people, and businesses on a global scale.]
[This really gives me the chance to work with different people, ]
[learn more about the business, how it works from different points of views,]
[and really share those best practices that we have with GE.]
[[Clayton] Eric, describe for us the people you work with.]
[[Wong] GE Fanuc has a great environment to promote personal development and growth.]
[Everyone I've had the pleasure to work with ]
[really understands how to be successful here at GE.]
[They are all very open to answer any questions I've had]
[or explain different processes.]
[On the flip side, they're also very open to change]
[and always looking for new and best practices that we can really put together.]
[Innovation and clear thinking I think are the two phrases that really come to mind.]
[[Clayton] Speaking about that, how does CLP challenge you?]
[[Wong] Well, as a CLP we change roles very frequently,]
[anywhere between six and eight months.]
[We constantly are changing different roles and jobs,]
[and we really need to be able to not only complete our goals and objectives]
[but also transition to new roles and projects fairly quickly.]
[I think this is a great learning experience as well.]
[Also the fact that each day or week can be different]
[in terms of the things that you do and the pace.]
[Sometimes you really have to take a minute, take a look at the deliverables and goals,]
[and reorder them in a way that impacts the business the most]
[as well as optimizes your personal development.]
[[Clayton] One last question for you, Eric:]
[How does CLP help you, particularly in career development and progression?]
[[Wong] Again, GE really has a great environment ]
[to promote that personal development and career growth.]
[To add to that, being on a leadership program really allows you to work with]
[and network with so many different individuals, teams, and businesses.]
[I think the program gives you the necessary tools and visibility]
[to truly succeed and differentiate yourself at GE and overall in your career.]
[[Clayton] Eric, thank you so much for joining us today on Jobs in Pods.]
[[Wong] Thank you for having me.]
[[Clayton] That will do it for this edition of Jobs in Pods.]
