PET/CT combination supports better treatment decisions
Ascot Radiology in New Zealand installed GE’s Discovery 690 PET/CT in 2011. Combining PET and CT scanning in one machine allows clinicians to check body functionality and anatomic structure at the same time, while using less radiation.
This advanced technology detects early stages of cancer, in particular lung cancer, lymphoma and brain tumours. Already, about 30% of lung cancer patients have had their treatment changed as a result – in some cases avoiding unnecessary invasive surgery.

Mobile scanning device the size of a smart phone
GE’s VScan has transformed palliative care at Ipswich Hospital in Queensland. It’s a pocket-sized mobile ultrasound tool that can be used to assess fluid accumulation quickly and accurately, without needing to wait for a radiology appointment.

This intelligent yet simple device makes point-of-care imaging a reality, speeding diagnosis and reducing patient wait-times.

Low-dose CT scan saves time and energy
Australia’s first Optima CT660, a 64-slice CT system, has arrived at Perth Radiology Clinic in Armadale Hospital, WA. Not only does it use less radiation and include a 12-inch colour video screen, it can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 60%. Automatic patient positioning reduces manual adjustments, saving time and further improving patient care.

The Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide uses our Discovery CT750HD CT scanning system to produce the highest quality images with the lowest possible radiation – in some cases reducing the dose by as much as 75%. With a faster scan time, this makes it ideal for treating children and reduces the need for sedation.
