GE's Business in Australia and New Zealand
GE Australia and New Zealand employs around 5,600 people and operates through four business segments servicing an array of diverse markets and customers.
GE Technology Infrastructure is made up of our Aviation, Healthcare, Home & Business Solutions and Transportation businesses.
Major customers of GE Aviation include Qantas, Air New Zealand and Virgin Blue. Every 2 seconds, a GE or CFM*-powered airplane is taking off somewhere in the world (*CFM International is a 50/50 joint venture with Snecma) At any given moment, more than 2,200 of these aircraft are in-flight, carrying between 50 and 300 passengers. That's more than 300,000 people ... right now ... who are depending on our engines.
Our Healthcare business employs 430 people and our anaesthetic equipment is used in 80% of all surgeries. GE developed the hot cathode, high vacuum x-ray tube which provided better control and output than the cold aluminum cathode. This development greatly facilitated the use of x-rays for diagnosis and treatment.
GE Energy is made up of Power and Water, Oil & Gas and Energy Services and employs 520 people. GE Power and Water offer water treatment systems that purify 70 million litres of wastewater per day for safe discharge in the Great Barrier Reef. Our Energy Services business is providing systems to employ “smart grid” technology for more efficient transmission and distribution. GE's wind turbines prevent as much as 18.3 million tonnes of greenhouse gases annually, an amount roughly equal to keeping over three million cars off the road.
GE Capital is the largest GE business in Australia & New Zealand, employing more than 4,000 people. We offer a range of consumer finance products to over 3.1 million customers, and create finance solutions for businesses that help them reach their full potential.
NBC Universal is GE’s media arm, which operates locally through CNBC, broadcasting relevant business news 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, as well as the marketing and distribution of Universal release films and DVDs.

Our lighting business, on which the company made its name, continues to innovate and improve the technology by developing and introducing more energy efficient lighting for our homes and businesses and the largest provider of LED signage outside of the US.
And, one in three Australian and New Zealand households is a GE customer through our consumer financing business in GE Capital, where we provide GE Money Direct personal loans, credit cards and retail financing for partners including Myer and Harvey Norman.
