Letter to Share Owners - Introduction
Michelle Seward Project Leader, Hands on Atlanta, GE Power Systems

Hands On Atlanta takes place each October. This past year, more than 200 volunteer community service projects all over the city were completed in one day. The GE team was the largest corporate team in the event's history – more than 1,000 strong. As a project leader, my role was planning and execution, and making sure everyone was fully engaged and having fun.

My team's site was Southside Comprehensive High School. We painted murals, built spectator benches and did all sorts of landscaping to spruce up the campus. One area of the school grounds was seriously eroded and totally overrun by shrubbery – we transformed it into a well-trimmed garden, and the students really noticed the difference.

I love Atlanta. It's my hometown. Working for a company that encourages its employees to get involved in their communities is very important to me. There's no limit to what we can do for our communities if we all heed the call to serve.

GE people volunteer more than 1 million hours every year in communities around the world, and the GE Fund, GE Elfun (the Company's employee / retiree volunteer organization) and individual employees and retirees annually donate more than $100 million to support education and community organizations.
